myEthos

This is my attempt at a witty title for my first blog post. For those of you who paid attention in English class, I did it for you. Although, I must admit I had to look up which one was which (logos, ethos, pathos).

For those of us (like me) who didn't pay close attention in class, ethos is part of a trilogy of concepts outlined by this guy named Aristotle. To keep from digressing much further, the word 'ethos' is Greek for character. If you care to delve deeper into this concept click here. But in a nutshell this is the 'about me' page.

My name is Greg.

I'm 25 and live on the island off the Cape of Massachusetts called Martha's Vineyard. I moved here three weeks ago with my girlfriend, dog, and two cats. When the thermometer topped 100 degrees in early May in Miami, we pulled anchor hauled our sails and made the 1,557 mile drive to the island.

Anyways since I've been here I'm surrounded by people of the earth; striving to create the perfect balance, living in harmony with the earth.

I want to get healthier! I've "dieted" before, experiencing temporary success. My girlfriend is a pescitarian and for a while I hopped on that train. I dropped from 198ish to 179ish, which was awesome while it lasted.

But it didn't last.

I first heard of the paleo lifestyle last weekend while playing paddle ball on the beach with an old high school friend. Essentially it's a dietary shift from eating tons of manufactured foods to a more raw, primal type sustenance.

Put more simply: "If you can't kill it, or pick it from a plant, you probably shouldn't eat it."

After my first week of this program, I've lost 3 pounds. Easily!

I eat eggs, fish, steak, veggies, keep my carbs between 50-100 grams a day, and I'm still losing weight, and I feel great too. I walk around barefoot or in my new Vibram FiveFingers. I buy produce from the farmer who grew it. I don't drink soda, just water and the occasional tea. I wake up rejuvenated, not groggy.

So to sum this post up, the point of this blog is to sort of serve as a springboard for those who are embarking on a shift to the paleo lifestyle.

It's also to help keep in touch with friends I've made along the way. Without them I wouldn't be the person I am today, and judging by how much I just wrote about myself, I kinda like who I am.

On a side note, I really look forward to reading replies, so feel free to drop me a line in the comment section BELOW!
