We All Scream for Paleo Ice Cream!

So perhaps this title is a bit misleading, but hear me out. This recipe is for a sort of homemade fruit sorbet. The other day I was pouting about not being able to eat ice cream with my family after dinner. So in an effort to make me feel better my girlfriend whipped up this fruit puree, stuck it in Tupperware, and froze it.

Needless to say this probably shouldn't be eaten every day, as the fruit is still high in sugar, but at least its not processed sugar from the grocery store!

Eating Out Paleo Style

Happy hump day to everyone! I apologize for my absence over the past few days, I've been running around the island a mile a minute.

Today I wanted to touch on my sandwich addiction.

I don't know what it is about biting into a fresh hoagie that keeps pulling at my emotional heart strings, but it has certainly made that aspect of my paleo diet challenging. I find myself looking at all the delicious options on the deli board, lamenting the fact that I no longer eat bread.

Finding an alternative in these situations is the key to our success. And for me, your typical cobb salad just isn't going to cut it when I'm staring at the Italian sub three lines down in the sandwich section of the menu.

So what do I do?

Blind Faith, No More

I hope everyone survived the northeast storms last night. While it didn't rain here until late last night, my plans to sell t-shirts for the Chilmark Volunteer Firefighters Association were derailed by ominous, grey clouds and rolling thunder.

Today marks the eleventh day since I embarked on my journey of going Primal. To a certain degree, many behavioral researchers believe that it takes about 21 days to break in a new habit provided a baseline of situational variables are in order. Basically what this means is I'm just over half way there, and as I will describe later, I'm seeing real results.

'Better Than The Real Thing' Pancakes

Okay so I know that one of the most difficult meals in the Paleo diet is breakfast. Eggs get boring fast, having a hamburger is a bit heavy, and there are so many great breakfast items we grew up loving that don't quite make the cut (sorry Cap'n Crunch).

We each have our own weaknesses when it comes to the kitchen. In my case, pancakes. That fluffy wheel of heaven, lathered in butter and Canadian maple syrup makes the fat kid inside me drool. Fortunately, there is a way we can leave the Bisquick in aisle 4, taking a healthier (and in my opinion tastier) rendition of an American classic.

The fresher the better!
What you'll need for this recipe:
- 2 ripe bananas
- 1 egg- 1 heaping tbsp almond butter
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 handful fresh blueberries
- Real butter (toss the margarine)

Paleo Sweet Tooth

Alright so now that you guys know who I am, its time to get to business. Now I'm not the inventor of this recipe, so I must give credit where credit is due.
Paleo Ingredients
But this is a blog of my experiences, and this particular one is supremely noteworthy.

So as you've probably figured out (and possibly lamented) going paleo eliminates a lot of sweets from your diet, so of course you are going to want to find ways to satiate that desire. Dark chocolate is great but sometimes you want something which you can eat a bit more.

Enter sweet and salty trail mix.
